Another me Feb.2009

(no subject)

If you like birds, please take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count next weekend (Feb. 16-19). It's fun, easy and helps naturalists and scientists track what's going on with our feathered friends (think canary in the coal mine).

Thank you for viewing this Public Service Announcement...now back to regular programming.

The Free Trees!

Celebrate Arbor Day on April 27 by planting a tree or two... or more! For just $10 (the cost of a 6 month membership) the National Arbor Day Foundation will send you 10 free trees.

You can choose flowering trees, an all-bud package, trees for fall color or one of several other options. You'll receive 6 to 12 inch dormant, bare-root trees at the proper planting time for your area, along with complete instructions.

No room for 10 trees in your yard? Ask about planting trees at your child's school or even as a gift for a neighbor or a friend.  Go to
http://www.arborday.org/shopping/memberships to find out more.

Top Five Reasons to Plant a Tree
  1. Trees boost the market value of your home.
  2. One young tree has the cooling effect of 20 air conditioners.
  3. Trees can cut your heating costs by 20 to 50 %, and cooling costs by 30%.
  4. In lab tests, a tree-filled scene reduced subjects' stress within 5 minutes.
  5. One acre of trees absorbs 6 tons of carbon dioxide and produces 4 tons of oxygen.  That's enough fresh air to sustain 18 people for a year!
